The project is started in 2001 as first Pan-European information system (web portal) on invasive alien species, providing access to the global, regional, sub-regional and national Internet resources on biological invasions - the Regional Biological Invasions Centre project, or RBIC (for description of RBIC concept and information systems see Panov, 2004, Panov and Gollasch 2004). Because creation of DAISIE European Invasive Alien Species Gateway, which used RBIC information system as a prototype, in 2007 initial RBIC web portal was closed, and web site of the Regional Euro-Asian Biological Invasions Centre (REABIC) has been developed.
