Aims and Scope

Aquatic Invasions is an open access, peer-reviewed international journal focusing on academic research of biological invasions in both inland and coastal water ecosystems from around the world.
It was established in 2006 as initiative of the International Society of Limnology (SIL) Working Group on Aquatic Invasive Species (WGAIS) with start-up funding from the European Commission Sixth Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development Integrated Project ALARM.

Aquatic Invasions is an official journal of International Association for Open Knowledge on Invasive Alien Species (INVASIVESNET).

Aquatic Invasions provides a forum for professionals involved in research of aquatic non-native species, including a focus on the following:

• Patterns of non-native species dispersal, including range extensions with global change
• Trends in new introductions and establishment of non-native species
• Population dynamics of non-native species
• Ecological and evolutionary impacts of non-native species
• Behaviour of invasive and associated native species in invaded areas
• Prediction of new invasions
• Advances in non-native species identification and taxonomy

Open Access Policy

Aquatic Invasions is an Open Access journal which means that all content is freely available without charge to the user or his/her institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles in this journal without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author. This is in accordance with the BOAI definition of Open Access.
The Open Access (OA) policy of Aquatic Invasions means that authors retain the copyright of their articles, which can be copied, downloaded and freely distributed within society (please see Copyright statement below). The primary advantage of OA journals is that the entire content is freely available to users everywhere, and this may enhance citation rates of OA papers. Aquatic Invasions applies a regular funding model for OA journals, by charging authors for processing of their manuscripts (information on page charges and on applications for support can be found at "Author Guidelines" web page). Also, the journal is currently seeking additional funding from relevant organizations in order to support students, retired scientists, those from low income countries.

Data Publication Policy

Submission of a manuscript to Aquatic Invasions implies that all scientific information described in the manuscript, including all relevant raw experimental and field data, will be freely available online for any interested data user. We expect users of the data to cite the published paper. Geo-referenced species record information (both for non-native and native species), annotated checklists and biological profiles of non-native species should be deposited in the Regional Euro-Asian Biological Invasions Centre (REABIC) information system (please check standard submission forms in the Manuscript presentation section of the Authors Guidelines) or in the other recognized online species record data repository (e.g. GBIF or one of its data sources). Please note that REABIC is a partner organisation and data provider for the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) (REABIC profile at the GBIF web site) and for the developing European Alien Species Information Network (EASIN). All data deposited to REABIC will be publically available only after release of the relevant publication in Aquatic Invasions, including relevant publication of species checklists or species occurrences with GBIF. All of these data or selected parts of them can be published in tabular format or as supplementary material as part of the online research paper without any size limit and without page charges. Relevant links and references will be included with deposited data in order to protect authors’ rights on this information and to increase the citability of their publication in Aquatic Invasions.

Nucleic acid sequences also should be deposited in an appropriate database (i.e. GenBank) in time for the accession number to be included in the published article.

Authors may propose alternative repositories and archives for their data. If so, they should provide permanent open-access as is the case with the above options and should have some added value (e.g. greater quality assurance or and/integration of data in a specialized database).

Aquatic Invasions is indexed by Web of Science ( Science Citation Index Expanded; Current Contents - Agriculture, Biology & Environmental Sciences; Zoological Record; BIOSIS Previews ), Scopus, CAB Abstracts, EBSCO, and ASFA (hosted by ProQuest) databases.
