SIL 2004 Workshop
Aquatic Alien Species – International Cooperation in Research,
Information Exchange and Management
Lahti Cultural Centre
Lahti, Finland
Date: August 13, 2004 Time: 18:30-20:30
Workshop agenda included presentation by SIL WG AIS Chairperson Dr.
Vadim Panov on present and future WG activities, including current situation with
European Research Network on Aquatic Invasive Species (ERNAIS), and
discussion. As it
has been outlined in the presentation, current short-term priority objective of ERNAIS
include facilitation of development of subregional thematic networks/information hubs
on aquatic invasive species in Europe. The long-term objective include integration of ERNAIS
into the Global Invasive Species Information Network (GISIN) via development
of the European Information Network on IAS, based on subregional information hubs.
Considering development of GISIN, new perspective role of SIL WG AIS on the world-wide level
should be facilitation of development of interlinked subregional and regional
thematic networks and information hubs of this global network (specifically contribute
with relevant information on freshwater and brackishwater invasive species, including
primary data for online GIS and species entries, publications, project descriptions,
expert contacts etc).
